Jim balent

Jim Balent is a Pennsylvania artist that made a name for himself in the comic industry with his iconic run on DC Comics’ Catwoman from 1993 to 1999. His dynamic illustrations and storytelling helped redefine the character for a new generation of readers. But Catwoman isn’t the only feather in Balent’s cap. He’s also worked on other DC titles like Batman and Lobo, and contributed to the independent comic scene with Purgatori for Chaos! Comics. After years in mainstream comics, Balent struck out on his own, founding BroadSword Comics. There, he launched Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose, a series he both writes and illustrates. This unique title blends fantasy, folklore, and Wiccan themes, drawing inspiration from real-world witchcraft and featuring interviews and spells from practicing witches around the world. Balent’s passion for both entertainment and education shines through in Tarot, and his efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. In 2009, BroadSword Comics took home several Project Fanboy Awards, with Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose winning “Best Title” and “Best Indy Title,” and the character Raven Hex earning “Best Indy Villain.” From Gotham City to the mystical realms of Tarot, Jim Balent continues to make a lasting impact on the world of comics with his creativity, vision, and independent spirit.
